The Campaign

ON THE 31ST OF OCTOBER, an art-driven AIDS awareness campaign will launch in NTU’s new School of Art, Design & Media.

Entitled “The Face of AIDS”, the unconventional campaign aggressively pushes for the demystification and discussion of AIDS and STI’s issues, believing that an intimate understanding is fundamental to inspiring affirmative action.

A key objective is to spark discourse about sexually transmitted infections (STI) and AIDS, through a 4-day programme including a central exhibition, traveling art, film screenings and dialogue sessions with activists, social workers, students, sociologist and medical representatives.

Operating on the conjecture that Generation Y is a demographic that is generally desensitized to media hype, this campaign was designed to firstly, present information about AIDS, STI’s and their prevention as plainly as possible and secondly, initiate discussion about sexually transmitted diseases in our local context and the appropriate modes of sexual lifestyle.

Only with discourse and consciousness of the social context that these issues inhabit, can we establish the foundations for a culture that embraces mature and responsible attitudes towards AIDS and STI related issues.
